Ford ThunderBird Ford thought they'd take their own stab at the nostalgia business. There are quite a few last-century icons that wear the blue oval. For a revival subject, why not use a car famous enough to have been the subject of Beach Boys songs, starred in George Lucas movies, and has been gone long enough to be missed? Why not indeed. In 2002, the Thunderbird was reborn.

Default 91 5.0 V8 Engine Issues

I just bought a 91 from a friend and for the most part it runs well. However, when you get your speed up to say 55+ MPH you lose power and it falls back to 45 mph and you have to put the auto trans in neutral when you stop or it will die.

My first thought is a fuel issue. When I went to pick it up I had to reset the switch in the trunk for the fuel pump to get it to start. It has not tripped again but I found it odd. My friend replaced a piece of the fuel line under the car when his son puntured it with a rock.

He said he replaced the fuel filter and fuel pump about a year ago or so. Any ideas of where I can start with this issue?

Thanks

A good tuneup, plugs cap rotor PCV air filter and maybe wires should be considered.
Absolutely check for vacuum leaks, and then pull diagnostic codes from the computer.
All you need is a 4 inch piece of wire and the ability to count to ten.
HowTo pull OBD I codes

Watch that that fuel line patch !

There are 2 types of fuel line available at parts stores, regular and high pressure. If you aren't certain what is there, buy a piece of the high pressure and replace it.

If the parts store only has one type make certain it says "fuel injection" or "high pressure" on the hose.

The fuel line is high pressure. It looks like both line are rubber until you get to the frame then it becomes metal. Both ends of the rubber hose on both lines are secured by clamps.

I used seafoam today to see if it makes any difference. I need to get a new temporary registration tag for it this week. It also started to smoke from the engine compartment. It appears as though it is power steering fluid. Now I have to figure out where it is leaking from.

I just replaced a leaky SS line in my Windstar. The Manager at Advance Auto tried to sell me regular fuel line hose, I said no I need fuel injection hose and he said this is what you want, another counter worker came up with fuel injection hose and told the Manager there was a big difference between fuel line hose and fuel injection hose. Funny I havent seen that employee since that day.

Make sure it is fuel injection hose and they used fuel injection clamps cause regular worm clamps will fail fast.

Due the tuneup like BroncoJoe said and see if there are any codes.

The most common PS leak is the high pressure hose.
