Ford ThunderBird Ford thought they'd take their own stab at the nostalgia business. There are quite a few last-century icons that wear the blue oval. For a revival subject, why not use a car famous enough to have been the subject of Beach Boys songs, starred in George Lucas movies, and has been gone long enough to be missed? Why not indeed. In 2002, the Thunderbird was reborn.

Default 1997 thunderbird will not start

can someone please help me to troubleshoot problem with car not starting.
Car had been running find but this morning it would not start.
the engine will turn over. I pulled off plug wire and used a known good spark plug to test if it was firing. With the plug grounded it was not firing.
I checked volage to both coils. there was voltage reading on both center termials. None on the two others.
What are next steps in trouble shooting
Thanks for any help

Try swapping out your fuel pump relay (underhood) with another same type/size relay. Then listen, out back, to make sure your fuel pump is even coming on. Report back to us...

It is apperent the other two who responded didn't read you posting.

I have a 97 as well, twice now I have had the same issue. first time I replaced the computer with a used one from a salvage yard. then 2 years later same issue. this time I spent some money and replaced the computer with a new one. the cost was only slightly higher than a used on, just shop around for pricing.

If your not getting any spark the control signal comes from the computer and isa sent to the coil packs. how I found this was the same way you did with the spare plug. I did see a one time spark then nothing.

the computer is located behind the kick panel on the passenger side of the car. I hope this helps and good luck.

This thread is a year old.
The best advice would be to pull diagnostic trouble codes before pulling the PCM.

Camshaft Position sensor CMP VS Crankshaft Position sensor
CMP supplies camshaft position information to the PCM. The PCM uses this information during engine startup to begin sequential pulsing of fuel injectors.

Crankshaft Position sensor CKP provides crankshaft position and engine RPM information to Ignition Control Module. (Setting spark timing info)
