Ford ThunderBirdFord thought they'd take their own stab at the nostalgia business. There are quite a few last-century icons that wear the blue oval. For a revival subject, why not use a car famous enough to have been the subject of Beach Boys songs, starred in George Lucas movies, and has been gone long enough to be missed? Why not indeed. In 2002, the Thunderbird was reborn.
So, I'm driving down the freeway at 65 and I put the window down in my 88 Thunderbird and the window popped off of the regulator and fell down inside the door. It turns out one of the plastic U shaped clips that holds the window to the regulator had broken off and someone epoxied the window to what was left of the clip.
The Ford dealer says the only way to get the clips is to buy a whole new window !
Does anyone know of a substitute I might use ? My local parts store doesn't sell them.

hey man, hey to be the bad news messanger, but..
i just went through this exact ordeal. no matter what glass shop you will go too (trust me, i called and talked to every shop and glass guy in nj) all of them are going to suggest a new window. not because there money hungry and wanna screw you.
but they dont make an epoxy available to the public or glass guys thats strong enough to do a permenant fix. They might get it fixed just enough to put it up, but it wont even last a week unfortunately (remember i was in the same boat, i wanted a cheap fix myself). When you order the new window, its has the new clips attached(in most cases there metal also, you cant buy new clip by the way). The glue the window factories use are made to make the clips stay to the window for 20 years, no joke.
Sorry man, but your only choice for a permanent solution is a new window.
mine for my 92 tbird was 175 unfortunately. But now i dont have to worry about it breaking, not going up and down or getting stuck and rain leaking in. My new window is shiney and new, and mine came with a warranty from the shop. They said I wont need it though, as that glue/clip/window is gonna outlast the life of the car.
goodluck man, since you know this now, all you have to do is call around to get the right price!

industrial silicon adhesive will last for a while If you'd rather go for a cheap fix.... both of my windows have at least one broken clip... silicon isn't perfect, but if you can get a good clean seal, if will last for several months at least before coming loose again.
I just bought the car in January - When I took off the door panel and looked inside, I found that the window clip had been epoxied some time in the past. I re-epoxied it and it lasted a few days. I think I will try my marine epoxy before I give up and buy a new window - West System marine epoxy is some hard core stuff.
Thanks for the info, All !!!
