Ford ThunderBirdFord thought they'd take their own stab at the nostalgia business. There are quite a few last-century icons that wear the blue oval. For a revival subject, why not use a car famous enough to have been the subject of Beach Boys songs, starred in George Lucas movies, and has been gone long enough to be missed? Why not indeed. In 2002, the Thunderbird was reborn.
hi all, im new here. i've been around fords all my life, mostly mustangs and my current DD a focus.
i just purchased a 1996 4.6L thunderbird, and i cant wait to pick it up. i have to wait a week however, as its a state away and i have work all week. the car has 158k miles on it, and looks very clean. it does have a slight problem that i was aware of when buying......it has a cracked intake manifold. now i know with the mustangs its a composite manifold on the 4.6, im guessing the same is true for the 4.6 in the t-bird?
my questions are- was there any recall about this on the car? which new intake mani would you all suggest buying for it? and are there any other problems you are aware of with a high mileage bird?
thanks all!

Ouch! the recalls are all exhausted... you will need a new intake with an aluminum crossover... shop around a bit, as you need a NPI one for a seamless changeover....Problem is, it could well have been overheated allready as the cracks occur on the coolant passage crossover...Loss of coolant can be a catastrophic event on these cars...Do not drive it till it is fixed by replacing the intake.....
at 154 K, there are potential electrical and transmission problems that might occur at any time ... the engine itself barring overheating, running without oil, etc should be good for another 100 K...........These were actually great cars, but are getting a bit long in the tooth, and are expensive to hop up, and require an affinity for electronics... Good Luck
