Ford ThunderBirdFord thought they'd take their own stab at the nostalgia business. There are quite a few last-century icons that wear the blue oval. For a revival subject, why not use a car famous enough to have been the subject of Beach Boys songs, starred in George Lucas movies, and has been gone long enough to be missed? Why not indeed. In 2002, the Thunderbird was reborn.
I've had my 95 thunderbird v8 for a little while now. No real problems, engine seems sound, only it has a nasty vibration problem when driving, more specifically only when the gas is applied. It happens randomly, it happens while the car shifts (auto), and sometimes it doesn't happen. Brought it to a shop, the mechanics replaced a bunch of things that needed to be done, however it still vibrates. I think the car is fine otherwise, but this problem won't seem to go away! I was told that it may be the u-joints?
No real problems when shifting. Vibration goes away when the gas is released. Can sort of 'feather' by reducing the pressure on the gas pedal, while still moving. Only happens above 10 mph, if that helps at all. I'm not very good with cars, but I can relay any ideas you guys have to my mechanic.
Thanks for the answers! Everything on the car is stock and hasn't been modified. I was told U-joints, but my mechanic said he "didn't see a problem there." I'll have to have him check it a second time. Keep the answers coming!
I had a similar problem on my 96. I would be driving the car and it would rumble above 20. I would say check the plugs. One of mine was fouled out and it wasn't properly firing which caused the rumble only when on the gas.
It's probably the actual driveshaft itself.. They have weights that are welded on when balanced at the factory. If they said your U joints are okay, its most likley your driveshaft.. You can pay to have it rebalanced or replace it with a new aluminum light weight one.
I have vibration too.But not exactly as you described. And not one like tires out of balance.Nobody could figure it out. What i researched was ford thunderbirds are notorious for transmission vibrations.I was recommended to change the transmission fluid.
