Ford ThunderBird Ford thought they'd take their own stab at the nostalgia business. There are quite a few last-century icons that wear the blue oval. For a revival subject, why not use a car famous enough to have been the subject of Beach Boys songs, starred in George Lucas movies, and has been gone long enough to be missed? Why not indeed. In 2002, the Thunderbird was reborn.

Angry 1994 Thunderbird LX passenger window stuck down

I have recently purchased a 94 Thunderbird LX off a buddy at work. The car is great but last night trouble struck as I had both the windows down on my way to my cousins. When I went to leave I hit the driver side control to roll the passenger window up and nothing. I can see the volt gauge on the dash twitch when I hit the button but the window does not go up. Thinking it was just a bad switch I leaned over and tried the control for the window on the actual passenger side, but to no avail.

When I got home from work today I took the door panel off and found myself rather confused. If the motor is bad for this window how the heck do you get the thing out of there? there is only a hole large enough to pull anything out of near the bottom rear side of the door. Anyway I can get this window up without the power to the window motor? Any other thing that would cause this window to not work? I've checked the fuses and they are fine.

With winter approaching I'd like to get it fixed soon but don't want to spend money on a part that I don't need or can't install myself.

The speaker must be removed and then it comes out through the hole. Here is the AutoZone proceedure for removing the motor. I don't find a relay in the circuit in my Haynes manual, so I guess it's a wiring, motor, regulator problem your looking at. You may be able to push/pull the glass up to close the window, which must be done so you can drill the door. I haven't done this yet, but it's up for me soon.

Sweet thanks man, I'll give that a try.

Ya I'm planning on buying a hanes manual this weekend and sinking some time into the car. The driver side window has a minor issue as well. The part that clasps onto the front of the window to move it up and down is loose i think because if the window is fully up I can manage to get it down an inch or two before the back of the window starts dropping faster than the front.

It just hangs there unless I work my finger thru the gap and push down on the front of the window, while pushing the window control down.

So I'll something to do on Saturday

Someone gave me this link on another forum for regulator rebuild kits and the installation instructions which you may need too. They tell you how to remove the motor/regulator. They mention that after splitting the motor/regulator it is hard to get them back together. So I would think twice about separating them. Hopefully yours will turn out to be the regulator as that's the cheapest/easiest problem to fix, I think. Or even better a connector.

I ended up ordering the rebuild kit from my local NAPA which should be in tomorrow. I don't have the NAPA part numbers, but the relevant parts from the Dorman Catalog are:

74409 Ford/Lincoln/Mercury 2006-89. 62 Teeth.

Lift Motor Assembly Left Side 742-250 1998-65 Various Models
Lift Motor Assembly Right Side 742-251 1998-65 Various Models

The NAPA part number for the 62 teeth window regulator gear and the 3 small buttons is 655-1502, no grease packs come with it. It fits T-Birds from 89-97. I used some synthetic grease I had from other stuff to grease it with.

It's quite an easy job to remove the door skin and the switches, etc. I cut the inner-liner with scissors and taped the cuts up when I was ready to put the inner door trim back on, instead of removing the whole inner-liner. Motor comes out by removing 3 bolts. The hardest part of the job is cleaning it up and getting all the plastic shards out. I got it all together and it works just like new. If you have a window problem don't be afraid to tear into it as it is very simple to either rebuild or replace the regulator/motor unit. Takes about 2 hours if you haven't done it before, or at least it did for me.

The procedure should be in the Haynes Manual...but it's not. Thanks to Super Coupe Performance for the excellent instructions they have posted on their site. I would buy from them, but didn't, only because I could get the parts locally. Locally availability is always my first choice.

neosangrea I bet you have the same problem so don't hesitate to try this fix. It's one of the easiest window problems I have ever worked on. Good luck on your project!
