Ford Torino Most Torinos were conventional cars, and generally the most popular models were the 4-door sedans and 4-door hardtops. However, Ford produced some high performance versions of the Torino by fitting them with large powerful engines, such as the 428 CID and 429 CID "Cobra-Jet" engines. These cars are classified as muscle cars.

Default Need help with a VIN number

Hi i was looking to buy a torino but i could not find a fender tag but i did find a VIN number the only prob is I could not make out the first number i think it was an 8 or 0 i know this tells the year but i can not find anywhere to break down the rest of the number. This is what i was able to read _s4zf155875 like i said i dont know the first number but what would it be if you plugged a 8, 9, or 0. All I could see was the top of the number was curved. I think it was a 70 model but i could be wrong any info would be great you can email me at jeremybowles@sbcglobal.net...This was a rolling chassis no motor or trans what would be a good price for it with minimum rust and body dmg (small pin rust and parking lot dings)

Hello imacbo: The Ford VINs are all consistent in their design. You can go to LOVEfords - Information for Ford, Mercury, Edsel, Lincoln - The Blue Oval and vist the "tech Library". There is a VIN decoder for all 1960 to 1980 Cars.

You are correct in that the first number is year; 2nd digit is Assembly plant - S for Allen Park, Michigan; 3rd & 4th are Body series code - probably 42 not 4Z. In 1968 42 was a 2 door hardtop; 5th is engine code F is a V8 302 CID 2 barrel carb; and 6th thru 11th are consecutive unit numbers.

I did this to decode my 69. Good luck
