Ford Torino Most Torinos were conventional cars, and generally the most popular models were the 4-door sedans and 4-door hardtops. However, Ford produced some high performance versions of the Torino by fitting them with large powerful engines, such as the 428 CID and 429 CID "Cobra-Jet" engines. These cars are classified as muscle cars.

Default 393 stroker potential

Hi, I'm new to Fords, but I understand that a 351w can be stroked to a 393 pretty readily using a stroker kit from a wide variety of sources.

I'm using a '72 351w for this build, what flow potential will the stock heads have? It seems like the stock ford heads are suited more for a 302/289 than a 351, let alone a 393.

I guess I'm looking for advice here on which way to build the engine...I can stick with a 351 displacement or build the 393. The restrictions are that I want the engine to remain stock appearing (except possibly for headers and and any aluminum parts would be painted engine color) I'm also looking to keep my FMX (unless it's totally unsuitable for performance use...again, I'm a GM guy, so help me out) and I also want to keep the 3.00 gears in the 9". So...this engine needs to be built for street torque.

Any help? Thanks in advance.

Ok lets see.If you go 393(or 351 for that matter)can the stock heads.Go with trick flows or AFRs.Forget the FMX.If you need the 3.00 gears for hiway driving then go with the c6 trans. But those 3.00s will kill you on take off.Might I suggest about a 3.89 gear with a built AOD (auto overdrive)trans. You get take off and hiway cruising speed too.
