Ford Windstar Introduced in the mid-1990s, the front-wheel-drive Ford Windstar minivan campaigned with an emphasis on, and reputation for, safety. And in the hotly contested family minivan market of the time, that was an especially solid piece of ground to be on. As long as buyers didn't need to haul adults in back on a regular basis, the Windstar served a family's needs just fine.

Default Power Window Question

Merry Christmas all! New to the forums and have a few questions, but will do them 1 at a time.

Did a search and viewed a few posts, but it didn't really address my issue.

Got a 1995 Windstar 3.8L LX with the LCD display, approx 175M miles. The passenger power window works intermittently.

A little history. This summer the window was sluggish on the driver side control and worked fine on the passenger side. Sprayed rocker button with cleaner and all worked well. My son took it to school and when he returned for break neither rocker would operate the passender window. When I took it out and drove for a while, I would press the driver rocker and 1 time the window went down and I immediately put it back up. The motor sounded strong and moved smoothly, yet it would not operate again.

What could it be? Rockers? Motor? Solenoid? D- all of the above.

Thanks in advance for suggestions/help.

The window on our '99 wouldn't work from the pax side. Found a new switch assy on ebay for about $15. Popped it in, and all is well.

Sounds like you have switch problems. These switches are probably not up to the load.

Thanks for the reply.

Don't think it's a switch issue.

Took the door panel off, checked lead and there was power when the switch was pushed.

Took a hammer and tamped the motor and the window started working. Operated the window about 20x, up/down/up... you get the idea. Sounded fine.

So I am thinking it narrows it down to motor or regulator. The parts aren't that expensive, maybe $55-75 for both, but it looks like it is a pain in the arse.

Is the passenger side considered "right side"?

Thoughts? Comments?

Good you got that far. Is it working now? A possibility is the mechanism jamming. If it sticks again, try wiggling the glass while pressing the switch.

Default Same issue, 2003 Windstar

I had the same issue and replaced the motors on both driver and passenger sides.
Since then I have never had a window operating failure.

Changing the motors was not too bad.
I ended up cutting an access hole in the door panel to the motor mounting bolts, this made the task a lot easier.
There is a dimple in the sheet metal that appears to be in alignment with the bolt, this was what I used as a cutting reference point.
A small hole saw can cut a nice clean hole.
