Ford Windstar Introduced in the mid-1990s, the front-wheel-drive Ford Windstar minivan campaigned with an emphasis on, and reputation for, safety. And in the hotly contested family minivan market of the time, that was an especially solid piece of ground to be on. As long as buyers didn't need to haul adults in back on a regular basis, the Windstar served a family's needs just fine.

Default Sliding Door Rattle

1995 Windtar w/3.8L. The sliding door rattles like nobodies business. I have taken the panel off and all seems tight. I am guessing here, but my thought is the middle rear roller unit is the culprit.

I can't really see well in there. I have lubed the he11 out of it to no avail. Is there a spring or someother mechanism that adds tension? Any adjustments?

Thoughts appreciated while have the panel off.

Check to see if the door weatherstripping is attached, it cushions rattles.

Yes WS in place.

Adjusted both the rear and top hinges, lubed everything, and it is at least tolerable (for a 12 yr vehicle w/175M). Also snugged up window while I had access.

I didn't dare take the rear hinge off. Started too but the whole door was dropping (working by myself). Could have been a kodak moment.

I am guessing the rollers are wore or roller guides are wore then.

Yup, I would agree.

Other than a bone yard or dealer, where could you find these parts?

Maybe Ebay if somebody is selling parts off a door. Best bet is the Dealer.

I know this is an old thread, but figured I might be able to alleviate some grief for people. My 2001 Windstar had what I was sure was a rattle in the passenger side sliding door. It was getting so bad, I couldn't take it any more. I did everything to try to fix it, using styrofoam wedges to try to find the rattle, adjusting the door, etc. While searching for the problem on the internet, I found someone who said it was the shocks. I could not believe it, because it seemed 100% like the door, but put the van in for service this week and got the rear shocks changed. Guess what - it WAS the right rear shock - the rubber bushing was shot. I still can't believe that sound was not coming from the door - I could even see the door moving as I heard the sound, but trust me - the sound is GONE - completely. Check those shocks BEFORE you waste time on the door.

Sounds like a good fix. I been having this rattle too but never thought it was my door, always thought it was the exhaust.
