Ford Windstar Introduced in the mid-1990s, the front-wheel-drive Ford Windstar minivan campaigned with an emphasis on, and reputation for, safety. And in the hotly contested family minivan market of the time, that was an especially solid piece of ground to be on. As long as buyers didn't need to haul adults in back on a regular basis, the Windstar served a family's needs just fine.

Unhappy newbie ford owner here

Hi all. this is my first ford in 40 years, so bear with me.

i have a 2000 windstar with the following problems:

my abs light is on and what will be the easiest way to check it out.

standing infront of the van you see headlights, side lights/turn signal and on the bottom of the bumper is another set of lights, i HAVE no clue how to turn them on. are they fog/aux turn signals? they wont come on with the headlights or turn signals, the bulbs are new. otherwise the van runs great. Also the speedometer is acting funny when i am driving the speedometer does not go past 20 to 35 mph even when i know i am doing 45 to 55 and i have no cruise control. after doing some research here i find the M/C switch thats below the M/c could this be the problem? i just have the engine light come on i used my scanner and i got code p0401, EGR insufficient flow. i replaced the EGR and cleared the light, but it came back on now i think its my differential pressure feedback EGR sensor. i have alot to learn about my ford hopefully i can learn about it here. thanks all

Them are Fog lights, under the radio there is a switch to turn them on.

You can test the ABS sensors on each wheel by measuring OHM's or have it tested at a Ford or other qualified Garage.

There is some help here for that code you are getting. Ford Forums - Search Results

Now for the Speedometer I dont have a clue but I am sure someone here could help you!

Otherwise Welcome to the forum!

I am sure you will enjoy yourself here and find all the help you need plus maybe make a few new Friends.

Take care,

I don't get it why people always expect a old vehicle that breaks down to always be covered under some warranty?

If your exhaust tip is larger than your cylinder bore, then you are a Ricer.

rather more expensive approach, but you can also buy or rent a $300 ABS scanner and check the status of your ABS system, including trouble codes and sensor conditions (mark v bought a OBD-II scanner from that company)

Update- those lights may be aftermarket, can you show us a picture of them. also, check to see if the wiring harnesses are actually plugged into the light fixtures (look under/behind the front bumper)

Check the ABS tone rings on the front CV Joints. It's common for them to break and it will cause the ABS light and the speedo problem.

The ABS rings have zero to do with the Speedometer, the Speedometer is driven off the transmission.

How do I know this? I had disconnected 2 ABS sensors on my car, one in the back and one in the front and forgot to reconnect them and my Windstar still had a working Speedometer.
