Ford Windstar Introduced in the mid-1990s, the front-wheel-drive Ford Windstar minivan campaigned with an emphasis on, and reputation for, safety. And in the hotly contested family minivan market of the time, that was an especially solid piece of ground to be on. As long as buyers didn't need to haul adults in back on a regular basis, the Windstar served a family's needs just fine.

Default Instrument/Control Illumination

My 1998 Windstar panel lights are not working. They failed five years ago. When very cold they will iluminate for a few seconds to a minute or so and go out when warm they go out within a couple of seconds the lights are switched on. I suspect a transistor in the driver circuit to the lamps but I don't have a clue where the dash circuit is located. If anyone knows the location or a fix that would get the blue glow working again that would be cool! Thank you!

Replace your headlight switch, most likely the problem.

The dimmer is on the dash near the ignition key.

Mark,

Yes that is where the variable resistor is (and connects to the thumb wheel) but where is the CIRCUIT BOARD for the lamp driver semiconductors that the knob controls? It may be on the dimmer but more likely it is on a larger control board somewhere...
