Ford Windstar Introduced in the mid-1990s, the front-wheel-drive Ford Windstar minivan campaigned with an emphasis on, and reputation for, safety. And in the hotly contested family minivan market of the time, that was an especially solid piece of ground to be on. As long as buyers didn't need to haul adults in back on a regular basis, the Windstar served a family's needs just fine.

Default 98 Windstar won't start...need suggestions

Was out driving all day yesterday with no problems and when my wife went to go to the store she pulled out of the drive way and noticed her window wouldn't go up (power windows) so she pulled over, shut the car off and then tried to start it again and wouldn't start. Wouldn't even attempt to turn over but lights and all worked. Got it started with a jump, pulled back into the driveway and then shut it off and wouldn't start. Today I've had the alternator checked and battery checked and they are ok. The battery was low on charge though when checked but the battery is fairly new. Had the battery charged up, brought it home and the van started. Wondering though if the starter needs replaced? Thanks for any info!

No the starter doesn't need replacement. If the starter was bad it wouldn't even crank.

If the battery is new and was at low charge I would say your alternator is on it's way out. It could have barely passed the autozone test. Have the retest it. I would say that is your problem if it isn't you could have a bad wire in between the battery and the alternator.

I recommend taking it to the Ford stealership or a local shop. Describe your problem and instruct them to inform you of their diagnoses prior to doing any work. Post what they said is wrong and we can give you further advice on what to do based on your abilities, cost, etc.
