Ford WindstarIntroduced in the mid-1990s, the front-wheel-drive Ford Windstar minivan campaigned with an emphasis on, and reputation for, safety. And in the hotly contested family minivan market of the time, that was an especially solid piece of ground to be on. As long as buyers didn't need to haul adults in back on a regular basis, the Windstar served a family's needs just fine.
First of all Good day to you, I'm glad a found a Ford forum, So here is my porblem I have a Windstar 98 3.8 and recently I replaced the rear brake drums and shoes and the fron rotors and pads, however the Brake light and the ABS light on the dash are still on, I'm not all that concerned about the ABS light since I rekon it might be an sensor issue, however the brake light has me puzzled, I have no idea how can I still have a problem when everything is new and there seem to be no leaks and the brake fluid is right. Did any of you have any similar issue, can you point me in the right direction to troubleshoot my problem? Could there be something I didn't check? I'm not a mechanic by any means I just do some maintance on it. Any help I can get would be greatly apreciated, thank you very much in advance.
Edit 1, I found out that if it's not a sensor issue with the ABS it might be the that ABS module has gone bad, now my questions is, if the ABS module went bad could that be the reason why I get the brake light and the ABS light on? Edit 2, Aparently the fault was a yellow fuse under the steering wheel, that's how the shop fixed it, I don't know if it will solve your issue but it's worth a try for a 75 cents fuse.

I've got the same problem with mine, 98 3.8L, hot smell (did this happen with yours at all), ABS and Brake light came on at same time, fluid is good, no leaks. Other research I've done all points towards the module that is located under the driver's door on the frame. It was also suggested here that it could just be a sensor. I need to have the ABS codes pulled to know for sure.

Most likely an ABS sensor got damaged on one of the wheels. The sensors on the 1998 have 2 wires on them. Run an OHM meter on them and post your results and I will tell you what one is bad for free so you dont have to get your codes checked.

Thank you for the replays, I'll check the sensors as soon as I get home, now could that be the reason why I have the brake and the abs light on? Does that particular kind of failure triggers the ABS and the Brake light on the dash?
anyway, if the ABS Hydraulic unit goes, a lot of things can happen. I suppose you can pull the ABS fuses and see if you get any other lights. Then you know that your problem is in the ABS system. When my ABS Hydraulic unit failed, the brake pedal became soft and unresponsive, a very horrible thing. I continued to drive (and tow a bit) for a couple thousand miles with basically little/no brakes.
And Mark, I know my sensors are bad... At (and only at) 72 MPH, my ABS light comes on. If I am going faster or slower it's fine, though I can feel the ABS kick in sometimes when it isn't even needed (degraded braking on dry pavement). The two driver's side sensors are new, passenger are OEM. The resistance is within spec acording to my voltmeter, so how do I know which sensor is bad? Front or back?
