Ford Windstar Introduced in the mid-1990s, the front-wheel-drive Ford Windstar minivan campaigned with an emphasis on, and reputation for, safety. And in the hotly contested family minivan market of the time, that was an especially solid piece of ground to be on. As long as buyers didn't need to haul adults in back on a regular basis, the Windstar served a family's needs just fine.

Unhappy 2000 Windstar SEL

My Windstar sometimes takes more than one attempts to start up in the morning. Few days ago it took me 5 minutes to get it started, after that it start fine. Today it started on second attempt. It has 49k miles and I have had 30k manufacture service done from the dealership. No check lights comes on. I had the battery and alternator replaced few months ago. Could it be fuel injection? any advice? I am worried it may not get worse.. thanks AA

A small leak in the fuel system will let it de-pressurize overnight. Turning on the ignition activates the fuel pump for a couple of seconds. Wait at least five seconds before engaging the starter the first time.

If that doesn't help enough, cycle the ignition switch a couple of times before engaging starter.

I tried your suggestion this morning and the van started fine. If it gets worse what is the alternative? thanks

Probably the check valve on the fuel pump in the tank. All you can do is replace it with a factory part.I guess it could possibly be the fuel pressure regulator but that would usually cause some sort of drivability issue.

It probably won't get worse. Any tiny leak will lose all the pressure overnight. It could be a leaky injector, too. If that's the case, a better brand of fuel like Chevron might help. Techron is a detergent that cleans the fuel system. ExonMob has a similar one.
