1998 Windstar loose headlight

my passenger headlight is very wobbly, it is also sticking out more than the driver side. I'm not talking about the bulb, but the actual headlight assembly.

How can I fix the looseness or how can I get the headlight off to check the mounts?

they have 3 very annoying clips that must be removed.I have a modified pair of snap ring pliers that only work marginally for removal.It kinda sounds like the lower adjustment stud is out of its hole.

I was hoping for a pointer or even a picture showing something to help me remove it. The was the light is loose, it doesn't allow me to aim it properly, definitely feels like a stud fell out... I think it might be the top stud, but I can't be too sure.

Sounds like you may have some broken studs. One stud broke on my 95 Windstar and causes the light to wobble. It's been propped in place with a wad of folded paper for over a year now to hold it steady until I get more permanent fix. It also possible that the clips holding your headlight in place may be missing on one or more studs.

Fixed it. The ball-and-socket joint came out (upper-left stud in the picture's orientation), I had to remove the headlight, remove the socket joint sleeve thing, and push the ball back into the socket, then reinstall the sleeve, and put the headlight back on the van.

However, while I was putting the clips on, one fell in between the radiator and bumper.... and I cannot find it. I hope the clips aren't too expensive at the dealer, or I'll be making a clip.

why dont you just get some from the auto wreckers , there probably free or maby $1 or less.
