Ford Windstar Introduced in the mid-1990s, the front-wheel-drive Ford Windstar minivan campaigned with an emphasis on, and reputation for, safety. And in the hotly contested family minivan market of the time, that was an especially solid piece of ground to be on. As long as buyers didn't need to haul adults in back on a regular basis, the Windstar served a family's needs just fine.

take it to your local transmission shop. I recommend a "name brand" shop. This is because while you pay a tiny bit more, you get a better quality rebuild that they ussually stand behind with a warrantee. Aamco, Lee Myles, and Cottman are the top three in my opinion, and I ranked them in the order that I would choose them. I have personally had all my rebuilds done at Aamco and never had a problem since.

Most rebuilds are simple and under $2000. They can range a lot depending on what failed and to what extent. The quicker you get it repaired, the less damage and the cheaper the rebuild will be. The quote (external diagnosis service) is free and then you'll know what situation you may be in.

If your check engine light is on, borrow a code reader.

Is there a dripping of brake fluid from the master cylinder?

I am leary of shops that specialize in replacing transmissions, until I have exhausted all other possibilities. Do you have a trusted mechanic?
