Ford Windstar Introduced in the mid-1990s, the front-wheel-drive Ford Windstar minivan campaigned with an emphasis on, and reputation for, safety. And in the hotly contested family minivan market of the time, that was an especially solid piece of ground to be on. As long as buyers didn't need to haul adults in back on a regular basis, the Windstar served a family's needs just fine.

Default help identify parts

Hi,

This pertains to '95 Windstar LX...
I was wondering if somebody who has the service manual could tell me what the official name of the following part is.

My steering fluid is leaking out of this pipe that is in front of the radiator. It is not a hose but a metal. I suppose that the best way to describe it is to note that this pipe looks like a flattened coil.
I think it maybe a pressure hose, but the word hose kind of throws me off since it is a metal pipe not the hose.
I am including a sketch for reference.

post a reply or send me an email if you know!!!

thank you,

Yep that is what it is, Ford used an El-Cheapo design on the Windstar Power steering cooler.

Default Now that we now the name....

Thank you guys for helping me with the name. I took some photos of that part and I would like to replace it. I have looked on the net for this part (using the name) but could not find this part online....

Is it only available through the ford dealer? or can this actually be made out of a regular pipe of correct diameter provided that it is bent properly?

what do you think?

sounds like it's something that probably a dealer-only part. you'd be best off getting the part from them rather than fabricating one.

I would just make one out of a steel Brake/Fuel line and connect it with hose clamps, or even better just buy a small aftermarket Automatic Transmission cooler. The aftermarket Automatic Transmission cooler will do the same thing as the original one but will keep it cooler and will look much better, just make sure you get the smallest one or one that looks about the same size as the original line.

I found you one here, it is actually a power steering cooler.

Thank you guys for helping out!!! Your are awesome!!!

I checked with the dealer and they told me that they do not have a pre-made part, and they would have to manufacture it from the break line type pipes.
With this in mind, is there a material preference that I should be aware of? Stainless or plain steel or some sort of non-corrosive alloy?

I would think some sort of alloy would be the best, but am not too sure on the material.

What do you think?

Just regular brake line material will be good or the fatter fuel line material. If it is good enough for brakes or fuel it is good enough to hold power steering fluid.
