Ford WindstarIntroduced in the mid-1990s, the front-wheel-drive Ford Windstar minivan campaigned with an emphasis on, and reputation for, safety. And in the hotly contested family minivan market of the time, that was an especially solid piece of ground to be on. As long as buyers didn't need to haul adults in back on a regular basis, the Windstar served a family's needs just fine.
OK, so I've tried putting in the brake pressure differential deactivation switch and the new pigtail, but the fuse STILL blows. I'm at a loss. Does ANYONE have any idea why this fuse still blows. It's the same fuse that runs the speedo, odometer, A/C, ABS (apparently). Could it possibly be something wrong with the A/C compressor? I ONLY have the problem in the warm summer months. It was doing the same thing last summer but stopped in the winter. HALP!!
Other loads:
power sliding doors
parking aid
rear window defrost
seat heaters
speed control servo
abs
brake pressure switch (is it leaking?)
steering position sensor
No, it's very intermittent. Sometimes it's within seconds, sometimes it's a day or so. I've tried driving without the A/C on and it doesn't seem to matter wether it's on or off. It doesn't have heated mirrors or cruise control, and I know this sounds weird, but it doesn't have the brake pressure switch. I bought one from the dealer yesterday, I was going to change it, but on the bottom of the master cyl is just a bolt...no switch. Weird?! Also it doesn't have heated seats or power doors.
I just had the same thing happen, (lost ac, brake light on, ABS light on, no odo, no speedo). I will check it tomorrow and check back here. The common problem seems to be leaking fluid on the wires but you said you don't have the pressure switch. I have to check mine to see (2001 model). Also, OD off light started flashing at the same time.
Checked fuse, 15amp blown. Replaced fuse, immediately blew. Pulled electrical connector off from bottom of master cylinder, full of fluid. Left disconnected and replaced fuse again and now have ac, speedo, odo. Looks like fluid leak problem has to be fixed and wires cleaned of all oil residue to make permanent fix
You know, now that I think about it...mine NEVER had a leak from the master cylinder anyway. It was bone dry at the bolt (not the electrical plug...because it doesn't have one). I even went and bought the brake repair kit AND pigtail, hooked them up, and was still blowing fuses.
