Ford Windstar Introduced in the mid-1990s, the front-wheel-drive Ford Windstar minivan campaigned with an emphasis on, and reputation for, safety. And in the hotly contested family minivan market of the time, that was an especially solid piece of ground to be on. As long as buyers didn't need to haul adults in back on a regular basis, the Windstar served a family's needs just fine.

Default 98 ford winstar AC problems

HELLO TO ALL; My name is Jeff and this is the first time I have posted. I have been reading the post on rear AC problems. I have a 98 winstar and when I first start it and turn the AC on front and rear it works great blows stong and cold. the problem Ive noticed is after a few minutes the heater valve under the car opens and lets hot coolant flow thru and moves the flapper to rear heat and the rear control stops working and blows hot air. So I disconnected the arm from the vaccum pull bar in the rear that controls from heat to AC and I put a manuel heater valve in and closed it off and the air blows cold but not as cold as when I first start car and every thing is working the way it is supposed to. There is a relay back there but dont know what it does. any suggestions on this would be greatly appreiciated.

There is probably enough information in this thread that you can figure out what the problem is, and how to troubleshoot the system.

The default for the front vents without vacuum is for it to blow to the defrosters.
You must have a vacuum leak.
Possilbe places are at the switch, or actuator, or otherise somewhere in the engine compartment.
This will make more sense after you read the above thread.

For a faster reply and help, start your own topic. It gets confusing when people jump in and ask for help in somebody else's topic.

is this just your rear air that is not working? if so I have the same van and replacing the rear air control knob on th main panel fixed our issue. it was like $35.00 at the dealer of course they told me it would not fix it but hey my kids disagree with them LOL!
