Ford Windstar Introduced in the mid-1990s, the front-wheel-drive Ford Windstar minivan campaigned with an emphasis on, and reputation for, safety. And in the hotly contested family minivan market of the time, that was an especially solid piece of ground to be on. As long as buyers didn't need to haul adults in back on a regular basis, the Windstar served a family's needs just fine.

Default 02 Winstar computer problems

I have a 2002 Windstar and just recently I've experienced electrical problems such as: gas gauge reads empty and indicator light comes on, rear air doesn't blow, power locks/doors don't work, brake lights don't work.
These problems come and go periodically. Never had any problem until I had new tires put on. Coincidence?

Mine is 2001, have the same problem all time from last week, it was working fine the day before the problem started.
Plus all the lights in the rear doesn't work, seems like no power goes to all the back accessories.
Any one can help??

I would check the connectors and wires at the rear electronic module, behind the jack.

I took out the jack and there is a metal bracket that holds the jack, I did not see any module.
Do I have to remove the plastic cover and this metal bracket? Can you tell me the location of the rear electronic module is??? thx.

My '02 is a cargo van, and the REM is right there between the jack bracket and the wall. Does yours have a plastic behind the jack bracket?

Mine is 2001 SEL, with almost all the electronic options.
Found the REM. I have to remove the jack holding bracket to took it out.
Opened the metal canned module, it has a computer circuit with lots of power transistors board inside, no burnt mark on resistors. Checked all connector not lose.
No luck still

Anyways to check if REM is really defective or not???

Check back on the fuse box under the steeling wheel, All fuses measure good, but it doesn't have any voltage reading between both ends on most of the fuses to chassis ground.
Assuming I have no voltage supply to the REM, where should I check from here???

Jump the voltage to one of the 20A fuse, everything back to normal.
I believe by doing this released one of the relay that was stuck.

Just had all of the same symptoms...had Ford change out the Rear Electonic Module...it fixed all the problems.

However, they did not know that this was the problem. They wanted to keep charging me to trouble shoot all of the crazy codes that the REM was causing. I wouldnt let them. I told them to change out the REM and they were astounded that it fixed the problem.

I hope this helps someone.

Curious... what did replacement of the REM cost?
