Ford Windstar Introduced in the mid-1990s, the front-wheel-drive Ford Windstar minivan campaigned with an emphasis on, and reputation for, safety. And in the hotly contested family minivan market of the time, that was an especially solid piece of ground to be on. As long as buyers didn't need to haul adults in back on a regular basis, the Windstar served a family's needs just fine.

Default how do you check rear wheel cylinder?

Hi, all:

I have a suspicion that my rear wheel brake cylinders maybe malfunctioning.

How do you check to see if they perform well or need to be replaced?

Thank you,

Jack up the rear of the van and remove the tires and the drums, if you see wetness it is leaking.

If your Exhaust tip is bigger than your cylinder bore, you are a Ricer!

If you have uneven wear. If the right is more worn than the left then the left one may not be working.

If you have uneven wear it could just be an adjustment out of order too.

A good leak can bee seen by laying under the rear of the van and looking at each tire because you will see the leak running down the wheel.

I checked the cylinders for leakage and none leak. But is it possible that they may be frozen or something? I mean when the brake is pushed they do not appear to visually push on the brake shoes.

Then they are both frozen/rusted and will need to be replaced.

Thank you,
They are so inexpensive to replace, if you suspect they are bad, just replace them. After you replace them, make sure that you bleed them!
