Ford Windstar Introduced in the mid-1990s, the front-wheel-drive Ford Windstar minivan campaigned with an emphasis on, and reputation for, safety. And in the hotly contested family minivan market of the time, that was an especially solid piece of ground to be on. As long as buyers didn't need to haul adults in back on a regular basis, the Windstar served a family's needs just fine.

Default Windstar Vibrates when backing up

Hello,

When I put my 2003 Windstar in reverse and backup, the car vibrates noticeably then it goes away. This vibration does not happen when in drive.
I just picked it up from the dealer and where the transmission was serviced.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what could be wrong?

Thank you.

Anyone else experience this?

The trans seems to be slipping in reverse. The RPM goes up with little movement and as the trans engages it vibrates then it catches and goes as the vibration dissapears.

Anyone?

On a car with high mles, I would be looking at the CV joints. However, this sounds like a tranny not engaging correctly.

Did it happen before servicing? If not, you need to check the fluid level; engine running in Park, engine and tranny warmed up, not hot.

Look at the gear position indicator; is it lined up with R and D when in detent?

Why did you have the tranny serviced and what was done?

Take it back immediately to the shop that did the work and tell them it didn't do this before.

The vehicle was serviced because of hard shift from 1st to 2nd. Upon opening the trans it was discovered that two springs were broken. All broken parts were replaced at a Ford Dealer.

I never experienced the slipping in reverse prior to the trans service.

I took the car back to the dealer this morning. We'll see what happens

thanks.

They should of tested it before delivery, sounds like they didn't or they broke something else.

After a week and a half the dealer finally fixed the transmission. They claimed it was a chain gasket that was bad and they replaced it. According to them, everything works now. I am not happy with Ford.

The vehicle was at the dealer for 1 month. We'll see if it lasts.

It is not Fords fault, it is the crappy Ford Dealer you dealt with.
