Ford Windstar Introduced in the mid-1990s, the front-wheel-drive Ford Windstar minivan campaigned with an emphasis on, and reputation for, safety. And in the hotly contested family minivan market of the time, that was an especially solid piece of ground to be on. As long as buyers didn't need to haul adults in back on a regular basis, the Windstar served a family's needs just fine.

Default Changed Tranmission fluid ... Now car shakes!

Hey Guys I am just wondering if you can help me out. My transmission was due for a fluid change. Even though it was a pain to do it at home I managed to get it done. I put in 5 liters of fluid and realized it takes way more than that. The problem is that now the car seems to shake when trying to shift into higher gears. It seems fine in the city but when I got onto the highway it started shaking like crazy. The only way to prevent the shaking was to take the O/D off and then back on but it still shakes when accelerating to pass another car.
So my question is .... WHAT DID I SCREW UP!?

Thanks

Sometimes changing fluid on these actually makes them worse if the fluid was never changed on a regular basis.

Make sure the fluid is topped off and maybe let it idle in park for a while.

Question..... After changing the fluid did you top it off and let the vehicle idle in park to let the fluid circulate and heat up to make sure it wasn't low or did you immediately go for a drive?

did you change the filter? did you clean the magnet and the pan? the issue of disloging some crud is always present when a tranny has not had its fluid changed. I'd say that if the shudder persists after topping, change the fluid again, change the filter and clean well the magnet, the pan. Maybe something wants to come out.

hopefully you don't have an overfill or underfill of Transmission fluid... Look in the owner's manual for the proper amount of fluid.

Mark V is probably correct. The fluid may not have circulated through the entire transmission. But It may also be bad timing.. How many miles are on the vehicle? and was there Any shaking at all before you replaced the fluid.

Just double checking, but was the fluid rated as "Mercon V" ? That is is only Ford Motor approved ATF.

Thanks all you guys for your replies. Yes I did all that you guys are saying and the car only has 189,000 Kilometers and no it wasn't doing anything before I changed the fluid. Found out it takes about 8 liters.
I found the coil went yet again. So I replaced it and also found that one arm of the IMRC was off so I had to make new plastic holders for all 4 ends since all 4 were cooked and fell apart. Took me another 3 hours to get it done with some plastic thingies from Lowes. Now it is running fine.
