Ford Windstar Introduced in the mid-1990s, the front-wheel-drive Ford Windstar minivan campaigned with an emphasis on, and reputation for, safety. And in the hotly contested family minivan market of the time, that was an especially solid piece of ground to be on. As long as buyers didn't need to haul adults in back on a regular basis, the Windstar served a family's needs just fine.

Default Door Chime problem

My Wife's 98 Windstar has approx. 127K. I have been through the common Windstar issues with door locks going up and down, interior lights staying on, etc and found that a few shots of WD-40 in the right places solves that problem for good.

New issue: The door chime stays on whenever the drivers door is open, whether or not the key is in the ignition. It seems to be in the ignition cylinder since the chimes do stop when the door is closed. I have tried both graphite and liquid-based lock lubricants with no change.

Any suggestions would be very helpful.

Sounds like it could be the GEM module.

Shoot ALL the door lock and latch contacts - especially the ones for the hatch and the slider - you also may want to clean the contacts on the sloder door with a clean eraser if they are oxidized.

I had this problem with a 98 windstar. I disconnect sensor in my slidding door. Check below the steering (right side). You will see a connector. All door switch go here and you will be able to check witch door is defective (close all door for make your test). All door put signal to ground. Now this is the color:
Left door handle sw Wht/LT Blue
Right door handle sw Wht/LT blue (left & right go to the same pin)
Left door ajar sw Blk/Yel
Right door handle sw Blk/pnk
Slidding door ajar sw Blk/Wht
Left liftgate ajar sw Blk/LT Blue
Right liftgate ajar sw Blk/LT Blue (Left & Right same wire)
Reference: Haynes manual
Wish I help you

I just baught my van in January and the previous owner had removed all the light balbs and disabled the door chimes for a quick fix for the door sensor problem. Anyways I fixed the sensor problem but I cant seem to find out how to enable the door chimes again, would anyone like to venture a guess
