Ford Windstar Introduced in the mid-1990s, the front-wheel-drive Ford Windstar minivan campaigned with an emphasis on, and reputation for, safety. And in the hotly contested family minivan market of the time, that was an especially solid piece of ground to be on. As long as buyers didn't need to haul adults in back on a regular basis, the Windstar served a family's needs just fine.

Default 98 Winstar Rear Heater Problem**HELP**

we have a 98 Winstar with a rear heater problem. The rear heat works great as long as the car is in motion, but if we have to stop after a few seconds it starts blowing cold. Also, when we start the car to warm up, the front blows hot but the rear stays cold until the car is in motion.

BTW, the Front blows Hot as normal, there seems to be no problem with it.

I have checked the coolant level and it is fine. Was thinking maybe the thermostat.

Thanks for the help

It sounds like you don't have enough hot coolent flowing through the rear core when at an idle. There is a vacuum actuated control valve under the van driver's side, I'll post a picture of it in a moment.
I'm not sure if vacuum causes the valve to open to permit more coolent to flow, OR if vacuum closes the valve.

If you have a vacuum guage, you can check for vaccum at that control valve. One should have approximately 17 inches of vacuum. I th ink it takes about 10 inches of vacuum to operate that control.
