Ford WindstarIntroduced in the mid-1990s, the front-wheel-drive Ford Windstar minivan campaigned with an emphasis on, and reputation for, safety. And in the hotly contested family minivan market of the time, that was an especially solid piece of ground to be on. As long as buyers didn't need to haul adults in back on a regular basis, the Windstar served a family's needs just fine.
Yesterday the engine started Ticking really really loudly. So loud I'm not driving it. This is not a quiet tick I've been reading some other posters on here.. The ticking increases as you rev up the engine and drive it. I have spent so much money already fixing parts on this van. Any ideas on what this could be?? This is my second vehicle for work so I am trying no to spend any more than I already have.. Thank you in advance.
Until you read the codes, you are throwing money in the blind.
Good parts houses will read the codes for free, except in Calif. Or, you can buy a code reader. Harbor Fright probably has the best price, and you can bet they're all made in Communist China, anyhow.
Some scumbags buy a code reader, use it the one time, then take it back. All '95 up cars use it, so it is as valuable in your toolbox as a sparkplug wench.
I did read the codes when I got the van.. they lead to all of the above stated things that I've done and the van was running great up untill yesterday when the ticking started. Its so loud, that I'm afraid to drive it to Autozone to have the code read until I have an idea of what it might be. Im being cautious because the ticking noise is SO loud.. Any thoughts on what it might be? And I have 156k miles on it now. I also have an identical 03' windstar cargo van with 189k miles on it with no problems whatsoever..
