Ford Windstar Introduced in the mid-1990s, the front-wheel-drive Ford Windstar minivan campaigned with an emphasis on, and reputation for, safety. And in the hotly contested family minivan market of the time, that was an especially solid piece of ground to be on. As long as buyers didn't need to haul adults in back on a regular basis, the Windstar served a family's needs just fine.

Question imrc question

i have been looking around lately on the old posts here for any info witch might help me with my sluggish 2000 windsdtar
i sometimes have good acceleration but mostly i have what feels like no power at high rpm's
anyway i found out about the imrc and the forum led me to its location and guess what ??
the friggin thing is not even hooked up on my van. the controll motor is there but the arms and anything else is just not on the engine the 2 little butterflies are rusted but i can move them freely with my hand

i have changed my air filter, spark plugs, i have cleaned the iac and the maf i have also checked and fixed a couple of vacume leaks as well as cleaned my throttle plate. i was getting the lean codes in both banks but since i fixedthe leaks and reset the codes the cel has not come back on
i have also heard that the CAT could be a likely culprit but i dont know how to diagnose this

any way how important is the imrc??. i just bought the van in april and the thing most likely has been disconented for some time. the previous owner of my van was really har on this poor thing. how much engine damaged could thid thing have possiably caused

thanks
my wife says im getting obsesed with this van but i just want to get it working so i can stop worrying about my wife and kid driving this thing while im away at work

non functioning imrc will have poor performance and fuel economy.

i called ford today and found out that the replacment part is 315 $$$ plusthe 10$ for each of the bushings. WTF???
any way ive got both butterflies tied up at the half position since i dont know which way is open and which way is closed
tomorrow im going to the scrap yard to see if i can find one that works.
i still dont know if my imrc is fucked i dont know how to test it
but i cant seem to find the little arms seperatly so it looks like im fucked

well as the repalcement arms are only sold with the motor as a whole assembley for 319.00 from ford and i cant get it at any junkyard in my province .... i tried them all by phone........im left with 2 options 1st option is ...to say screw it and just drive this friggin van till the engine shits the bed and get a new vechile
or 2nd option...... make the little arms myself out of some small steel or aliminium rod and just rig it up. im not sure i can make it work but i am sure that the van runs ok and im not going to spend 350 bucks when i can get a whole new engine for about 600 and that part is included

question is could leaving this alone damage my engine??????
any help or advice is appriceated

New as in rebuilt (because most rebuilds do not include intake manifold and above) or new as in "from the junkyard" ?

I don't think you will cause any damage, but depending how long it lives and the price of gas, that $350 might be worth it.

I've got an '01 Windstar and have been having problems with rough idling. Noticed the bushing was missing from the front IMRC linkage. Got a new one from Town & Country Ford in Louisville for about $6. Took about 15 min to install. Have not noticed any improvement in performance. I have not been tracking my MPG so i cannot comment on that. Did not fix the rough idle problems... still looking.

My engine is making a loud knocking sound that is coming from inside the intake. What can this be? I took the upper half off to seafoam the egr orifices but did not notice a problem. my imrc arms work fine. Could it be the stops need adjusting?
