Ford WindstarIntroduced in the mid-1990s, the front-wheel-drive Ford Windstar minivan campaigned with an emphasis on, and reputation for, safety. And in the hotly contested family minivan market of the time, that was an especially solid piece of ground to be on. As long as buyers didn't need to haul adults in back on a regular basis, the Windstar served a family's needs just fine.
i have 3.8 2000 windstar that has had some issue
i fixed some vacum leaks and sparkplugs and other stuffand thought i had this thing working ok
i was driving over some pretty shitty washboard road 2 days ago during a 300 km drive
i stopped at gas station when i logot back in od light was flashing
i knew from here that it was bad news. the funny thing is that before 2 days ago my van ran pretty good but now since the od light starting blinking there is a definate rattle in the drivers side of my engine compartment when i accelerate to climb a big hil or pass a big semi on the highwaybut other wise there is no noise and no harsh shifts no leaks. so im like what the fuck???
how bad is this likely to be???
my question is. can i drive this van untill i can get it into the shop???
and what is the cost of a transmision rebiuld cause i dont have the gear or the know how to do this thing myself
thanks
just back from the shop
the guy read codes and i got p0741 torque converter
and c1446 brake switch circuit failure
could these 2 be related
how much work is it to mess around with the torque converter
guy told me that the brake sensor sometimes causes the torque converter to not disengage and that i should try that first before we get into the major work
the part is only 30 bucks from ford
it seems unlikely to me that this is the problem but im not a transmission expert
i wonder if this is even worth fixing
i only pais 1500 for the van and since then it has been 1 thing after annother i estimate that i have spent about annother 1500 on it since i got it
it has 148000km
yeah thats what i thought
i think ill get a estimate from a couple of places then ill decide
i think my next van will be a non ford
i have a 1997 mazda protege with 220000km on it and i have just changed the only thing i hade go on it were the tie rods and struts
the engine still sounds good after years of driving
thanks mark for your advice ill let you know how it turned out
you know you are probably right ....but i hate to admit it
im not a ford basher
i just dont like my van anymore
what i really need is one of those new 09 f150's i like those
