Ford Windstar Introduced in the mid-1990s, the front-wheel-drive Ford Windstar minivan campaigned with an emphasis on, and reputation for, safety. And in the hotly contested family minivan market of the time, that was an especially solid piece of ground to be on. As long as buyers didn't need to haul adults in back on a regular basis, the Windstar served a family's needs just fine.

Default 99 Windstar Transmission problem?

I have a 99 Windstar, it will go into reverse, but not into drive. Is this a transmission problem?

If the shifter moves into drive and when you press the gas nothing happens then it is a transmission problem or a linkage problem between the shifter and the transmission. At 45000 miles my windstar did the same thing. It was the transmission.

sounds like the shifter linkage is bad......shouldn't be a major expense to fix....but find a reputable dealer or tranny shop in your area

Default Internal trans failure

Nancy

Sounds like the transmission in your Windstar has an internal mechanical failure. Speciffically, the reverse sun gear has broken out of the drum. This is a component that can only be replaced by removing the trans from the vehicle, and tearing it down.
