Ford Windstar Introduced in the mid-1990s, the front-wheel-drive Ford Windstar minivan campaigned with an emphasis on, and reputation for, safety. And in the hotly contested family minivan market of the time, that was an especially solid piece of ground to be on. As long as buyers didn't need to haul adults in back on a regular basis, the Windstar served a family's needs just fine.

Default Best Ever - stop crying

We bought our WS new in 2003 and it has been nothing short of a pleasure to own and drive. This is the most dependable vehicle we've ever owned. All this negative talk by a few folks on here would lead one to believe this car is a lemon. Far from it!!!! Millions of these cars have been sold over the years with the vast majority providing trouble free years of service. Some folks on here are complaining about 10+ year old vehicles with over 100,000 miles on them. What do you expect?!?!?! If you take care of your vehicle properly, it will take care of you. So stop all the crying , take your vehicle to a qualified mechanic for service, and enjoy the ride.

Well you are one of the lucky ones although you have a 2003 models which is the last model of the windstar meaning that most of the bugs have been fixed due to problems with the 95-2002 windstar. I dont believe that only a few of us on this forum have had problems with this van, if you search the internet the majority of windstar owners have had problems and not minor ones. There have been many lawsuits against ford for this POS 3.8 liter engine which was also in the Taurus and nothing but troubles with that car too. Even if people have a van over 10 years old and over 100 000miles there shouldn't be problems as severe as the ones with the windstar. I have a 1997 camry with 386 000km and no problems I also had a 89 aerostar with 487 000km on it and no problems. I also have taken very good care of my windstar and maintained it impecably, I didnt even maintain my other cars as I have with the shitstar. But I have spent a F_ck load of money on this van with no prevail. I dont believe the majority of owners crying about the windstar, we are F_cken pissed with Ford and how they have handled everything dealing with the windstar and their mechanics not knowing how to even fix the problems. The tranny in the windstar is garbage, i have gone through 8 and the first at 14, 000 km then at 20 000km and so on. Ford makes it money off of these damn problems and charges s_it loads of money to fix it. Have you ever tried working on this 3.8 liter engine there is no f_cken room to work. It is designed like a POS. For God sakes my sliding doors stick out 1 inch and Ford says thats how it is supposed to be. I cant wait until your bloody windstar starts having problems so we can see who is crying then. I dont see your point on coming to this forum to criticize us that we are crying about a vehicle that has been noted by all the automotive journalists and customers that this vehicle is a piece of crap. Sorry for my language

With a user name like "Death to Ford" I really don't think you have anything positive to add to this forum. As I stated, there are millions of windstars on the road and certainly there will be a few lemons. But what I'm referring to is folks like yourself who don't maintain their vehicles properly. You've gone thru eight transmissions???? Sorry pal, but you're either lying or you just don't know how to drive. And you're probably too cheap to take your car to a reputable mechanic. So you get what you pay for!!!!

To all others, I look forward to sharing positive dialogue about our windstars. And to my new friend "Death to Ford".......well your name speaks for itself.

I purchased a brand new 1999 Ford Windstar from Cam Clark Ford and it still looks brand new in and out and I take care of every one of my vehicles. This van has only ever had synthetic oil in it and have used the best parts available to keep it running. I have only ever taken it to Ford dealerships to have it serviced. I dont think the transmission is supposed to be serviced at 14, 000km do you???? I dont think so, then at 20 000km after new tranny and fluid it blows again, I dont think that is supposed to happen either. This van has had every problem imaginable and I am not the only one if you google up windstar problems what do you get........the exact same problems as mine. Ford has gone down the drain and they bring out the ugliest car to save them, the Fusion. Read arcticles from respectable auto writers they all say the windstar is crap buy a toyota or honda instead. I suppose you have come to this forum to provide some insight on how to fix the van. Well tell me how to stop the rear passenger doors from squeeking all the time, how do you fix the misaligned doors that is apparent on all the 1999 ever made, tell me how to fix the vibrations in my 8th transmission at 60km/h and goes away when OD is off and then starts vibrating again when it has OD off. Lets hear your insight into this. Since we are all crying about our "MINOR" problems lets see if you are here to actually tell people hwo to fix them or just to gloat about the fact that we are all crying here. We have all spent a fortune buying these vans and then spending even more to fix them. We all have the right to post our problems without someone coming here to argue that we are all crying about these problems. You have a 2003 model if you had any other model year you would be having tons of problems.

I really think it depends on what year windstar that you have.

I owned a 95 windsatar and the only problem I had was the head gasket problem which was covered under recall. The 1995 was a great van. So I bought a 1999 windstar.

The 1999 has been nothing but trouble since the warranty ran out. At 45000 miles the transmission self destructed. I have had chasis and engine electrical problems. Faulty fuel injectors, cracked faulty "plastic cooling lines", Cracked PLASTIC intake manifold parts. All of these parts had to be replaced before the 60000 mile mark. I have always taken care of my vehicles and have always given them the scheduled maintenace on time. This is first Ford that I have ever owned that lived up to the Fix Or Repair Daily acronym.

So to your point... I have had a good windstar and a bad windstar. There are some that have a legitimate gripe and some that don't.

I have to agree with Death to Ford

Ford has been going downhill and their vehciles are pure garbage

I have had 3 fords in my life and I will never ever get one again

Ford is a rapist and they take all of our money away
I am surprised a windstar actaully work you are a lucky one happy wcstar
I don't agree we are crying over a few minor problems either. These are serious problems and everyone I have talked to now says the windstar is very bad including ford dealerships and their mechanics. I have also read many articles about the windstar being a waste of money.

WAYYYYY TOOOO GOOOO DEATH TO FORD!!!!!!!

I agree 100%. Too much negativity. Not enough focus on how to fix the problems.

This forum is intended for people to post their Windstar problems without people like happy wcstar telling us that we are crying about these problems becuase without these problem we wouldn't have a forum like this to help people out. I don't know how happy wcstar contributes to this forum telling us all that we are crying about our problems. I don't know how he knows anything about our problems if he hasn't experienced any of them himself.
