Ford Windstar Introduced in the mid-1990s, the front-wheel-drive Ford Windstar minivan campaigned with an emphasis on, and reputation for, safety. And in the hotly contested family minivan market of the time, that was an especially solid piece of ground to be on. As long as buyers didn't need to haul adults in back on a regular basis, the Windstar served a family's needs just fine.

Question 99 Windstar Front End Thump

I have a 99 Windstar with 95,000 miles. When I hit a minor dip or a small bump in the road, I get a thump under drivers floorpan. Any suggestions on the cause of this noise.

I'm investigating the same problem on a 95 Winstar. My initial thought is suspension. There are several components that could be the culprit. How long since the struts were changed? I'm about to change the struts on mine to see if that solve the problem.

I had a 89 taurus that did that. Check the ball joints and see if they are loose and have excess play in them. Also check ALL suspension links for broken connections or rotted/corroded links/bolts/rubber bushings.

This problem is very inconsistent. The other day it happened a lot during my commute to work. But then it hasn't happened again since. The struts do need to be changed, but I think that the problem would happen all of the time.

I have this exact problem on my 99 windstar

I changed the suspension and the noise didn't go away and I changed the stabalizer links and tie rod ends but still the noise. I believe my problem might be related to the center bolt on the struts. I am going to take an impact gun and tighten it, I will see what happens and let you know

As expected, after a day of a lot of thumping, the van hasn't made the noise again for the past 4 weeks. I've taken it to a shop to see what they could find, but of since the noise went away, it was impossible to trace it.

my buddy had the same problem with his windstar, he had a mechanic look at it and they found it was some sort of stabilzer bars that run from the front of the frame, to the back...good luck

Default Front end thumping

Worn out strut camber adjustment brackets under the windshield cowling. Have the same problem, haven't fixed it yet. Good luck

Three problems that may fix it
1. the stabilizer rods, You can grease them with a grease needle
2. there is spacers for the strut towers.
3. there is rubbers at the bottom of the springs you remove and install coil raped rubbers (this is problem is mostly for veh. that see alot of graval driving because little stones get into the rubber and spring)
