Ford WindstarIntroduced in the mid-1990s, the front-wheel-drive Ford Windstar minivan campaigned with an emphasis on, and reputation for, safety. And in the hotly contested family minivan market of the time, that was an especially solid piece of ground to be on. As long as buyers didn't need to haul adults in back on a regular basis, the Windstar served a family's needs just fine.
I have a problem. WHen I press the door lock or unlock I see the locks actually trying to move and hear them clicking, but none of them lock or unlock, either from the passenger or driver side. What could this be, dont think it could be all the actuators. ANy thoughts??
The same thing happened to me while I was driving during a rainstorm. It was creepy and was a very X-files experience. My wife and I just pulled the fuse on the auto locks and have lived with it. The ignore option works for me my case. If you find out please post, as I may be able to add back an option to my car.
I hate to say it but yes it is the actuators. If they slightly move they are worn out. I have actually replaced all 5 actuators on excursions and expeditions before.

The old style actuators can actually be rebuilt, if you have the time and patience.
Search around this web site for a link on the details. The key is replacing a current limiting resistor internal to the actuator that limits too much current,

Thanks for the info all, I actually bought an actuator and installed it in about 30 mins. One down 4 to go, thanks again

Ya, they are quite easy to replace, took me about an hour to replace both driver and passenger and they work great "though they are built in china". Also had a chance to lube the door latch and spray the door switches with electrical contactor cleaner, now the switches work great again too.
