Ford Windstar Introduced in the mid-1990s, the front-wheel-drive Ford Windstar minivan campaigned with an emphasis on, and reputation for, safety. And in the hotly contested family minivan market of the time, that was an especially solid piece of ground to be on. As long as buyers didn't need to haul adults in back on a regular basis, the Windstar served a family's needs just fine.

Bank one is ALWAYS the one that has cylinder number one. In the 3.8 windstar cylinder one is passenger side closest to the firewall.

I found this to be true of every engine I've ever worked on...sooo.... I thought I would toss this out there to see if I am correct or not:

All "V" configuration engines has one head farther forward than the other.
Cylinder #1 is always the farthest forward in that head.
The trans is always connected to the rear of the engine.

Cuda,
I heard that from another friend of mine last year, and it is true for my 4.6L Crown vic. I hadn't checked my other engines to further validate it.

... If there is still confusion, you can always refer to a Haynes manual. Early in the engine section there is always a pictorial drwg that shows where the cyls are, by number. .... and "yes", ... cyl #1 is always in bank #1. This drwg is usually on the first page in the section.

thanks everyone for the input i really apreciate it . its been 4 days since i cleaned my egr ports and all the other stuff in that area and let me tell you it certainly makes a difference to the performance of the van. shes running so good im going to replace the broken imrc, and see if i can get it to run even better. oh and joe you must have a 98 or a 99 because the 3.8 in my 2000 dosent look anything like the one in your pic ....thanks though

Yes Danny, Mine is a '98. Perhaps you can post a picture of your 2000 so that this thread becomes more instructional for future viewers.
