Ford Windstar Introduced in the mid-1990s, the front-wheel-drive Ford Windstar minivan campaigned with an emphasis on, and reputation for, safety. And in the hotly contested family minivan market of the time, that was an especially solid piece of ground to be on. As long as buyers didn't need to haul adults in back on a regular basis, the Windstar served a family's needs just fine.

Default Started with fuse 10

My windstar first lost cruise, eventually the speedometer went, it started blowing fuse 10, I looked around online and found the repeated advise about the redundant brake pressure deactivation switch, checked it, and replaced it.

Since then, it's gone bat$#!t crazy...the headlights come on about 3 seconds after the key comes out of the ignition, blower motor kicks in, all the electrical is still alive and kicking. During operation (still seems to be running fine) the air doesn't work (no ac or heater), gas gauge is gone, all the instrument warning lights are on, and no speedometer or odometer. Still no cruise...wish that were still the worst of it...oh yeah, it's still blowing fuse 10.

Please help...thanks.

If your brake sensor was leaking brake fluid, there's an excellent chance fluid wicked down the wire from the brake switch. On some models, fluid is also highly likely to drip directly onto the transmission range selector, which also has a big bundle of wires going into it. Likewise, fluid can make it all the way down the wiring harness to the ABS unit (located approximately under the driver's-side floor plate). You might try checking these wires and connectors. Be sure to disconnect the battery before you start poking and pulling.

I have the exact same problem. I replaced the brake sensor switch with a new factory one. But, fuse#10 still blew. Disconnected the brake pressure switch and everything is ok except no cruise control. The harness from the steering column and the wire from the brake pressure switch all connect to a small box under the intake hose. I did the converse test , and disconnected the harness and left the brake preassure switch connected. Everything was ok, except no horn and no cruise.

I 'm convinced that when the original brake pressure switch finally shorted out, it took out something in this box.

I'm hoping someone out there knows what this box is called. I want to replace it and get my cruise control back...I hope
