Ford Windstar Introduced in the mid-1990s, the front-wheel-drive Ford Windstar minivan campaigned with an emphasis on, and reputation for, safety. And in the hotly contested family minivan market of the time, that was an especially solid piece of ground to be on. As long as buyers didn't need to haul adults in back on a regular basis, the Windstar served a family's needs just fine.

Default Yet another tranny problem ('98, 3.0L)
Hi gents!
After a cursory search I can't seem to find anyone with this problem: When in neutral putting it into drive it doesn't go into gear until I rev up the engine to maybe 2000 to 3000 rpm, and then wham! it gets into first gear like there is no clutch at all. The same happens when i drive and stop, the torque just drops out when at idle standing still until i rev it up again.

Taking off from every red light with wheelspin tends to attract strange looks, so any suggestions other than tranny change are welcome

Mine did this and it needed a full rebuild. If you continue doing this you will break something internal or damage your CV joints.

Sounds to me like it's low on ATF. Check the fluid level, warm engine, at idle, in park.
