Ford Windstar Introduced in the mid-1990s, the front-wheel-drive Ford Windstar minivan campaigned with an emphasis on, and reputation for, safety. And in the hotly contested family minivan market of the time, that was an especially solid piece of ground to be on. As long as buyers didn't need to haul adults in back on a regular basis, the Windstar served a family's needs just fine.

Rumbler: I just had this on my van too. the door itself is quite heavy and after a while the motor may not have the ability to open the door to full heat. Gravity defaults the door to cold air if the actuator isn't working, or if it's removed altogether. Until I could get an actuator, I used my 1/4" ratchet to keep the door on full heat (wedged it in there) since we had a cold snap of course. Sometimes too, because of the weight of the door, the gear can slip teeth when trying to open to heat. Best bet, replace the actuator with a new unit.

I am having the same issues with the clicking on my 2002 windstar. I found that it is a white box located behind the radio/dashboard with very little access. Does anyone knon what needs to be done to replace the actuator?

Just replaced mine last week. About $28.00 from Ford online. Remove radio, I used 4 thin allen keys placed into the four corner holes to release the clips. Radio slides out, remove plugs and antenna. Remove the cd holder below the ashtray, 2 phillips screws each side and 2 clips front, this gives access from below and side near driver. Actuator is right behind radio and held in with 3 8mm screws I believe a 1/4" ratchet w/ ext worked fine and reaching from below to get the third. New one should pop in just make sure the position of the door matches the post on the actuator. A little tight but took me about 1 hour to do and all buttoned up working great after.
