Ford Windstar Introduced in the mid-1990s, the front-wheel-drive Ford Windstar minivan campaigned with an emphasis on, and reputation for, safety. And in the hotly contested family minivan market of the time, that was an especially solid piece of ground to be on. As long as buyers didn't need to haul adults in back on a regular basis, the Windstar served a family's needs just fine.

Question 95 windstar interior lights stay on

My Grandma was given this vehicle from a friend. The problem she is having is that the interior lights stay on and the door ajar light is also on.She keeps insisting its the battery but the local les shwabs here has said no her battery is good still they even hooked up a new one to it. i have been able to narrow it down to the drivers door being the culprit. where is the door light switch and can someone who has some basic mechanic skills take care of this. i can do brake jobs, oil changes, and minor engine work. will the door have to come off. will i need any special tools other then 200 piece mechaincs set that i have. Any info and help will be very appreciative.thank you.

Can't remember if this applies to 95 or not. But if there is no visible door swtich then I think there is a control module that handes all of that.

Lightbulb

I have a 1998 Windstar that this happened to. Inside the drivers door is a module (door panel off looking at the inside left) There are two connectors on this module. I dont recall which one disables the interior light but you can try both. I disconnected the one on mine, the light does not work on the drivers door anymore but it does not run down my battery either. I never priced the module but its was not worth it to me to fix. Hope this helps

Same problem here except mine is a sticky rear door switch. I took the door apart and cleaned up the switch.

So you drove your Ford off a pier cause of a broken door light switch?

Yep I see why your Father and Grandfather were Chevy fans now, it all makes sense now.

The door ajar switch is removed from the latch mechanism with a half turn of the switch itself. The door latch is held in place by three torx head bolts, accessed from the open door, in the latch area. You will need to remove the interior door panel to get the switch out. The latch will remain in the door, as the power lock assembly, wires, etc. are still attached to the latch. You will also have to work around the window rail, but it can be done. The switch is a normally open cylinder style switch. Unplug the wire harness to the switch before rotating switch for removal, and plug harness in after switch is installed.

Had same problem. Removed and cleaned liftgate switches. Still had problem. Turned out that the latch on one side was not pulling the liftgate tight enough. Adjusted it, and the lights went out. Now I'm having problems with interior lights flashing intermittently. Someone told me it is the ignition switch. I was cynical, until I jiggled the ignition switch when the lights were flashing - problem went away. Seems to correct it every time (temporarily, anyways).
