Ford Windstar Introduced in the mid-1990s, the front-wheel-drive Ford Windstar minivan campaigned with an emphasis on, and reputation for, safety. And in the hotly contested family minivan market of the time, that was an especially solid piece of ground to be on. As long as buyers didn't need to haul adults in back on a regular basis, the Windstar served a family's needs just fine.

Default '99 Windstar Indicator Light....

I have '99 Windstar and no owners manual. One of my indicator lights has come on and I cannot figure out what the symbol means.

It is on the lower right hand corner of the cluster below the temp guage. The light is yellow and looks like an up-side-down light bulb (with lines surrounding it as if the light is 'on') and it has an exclaimation point inside of it. (Or as my kids seem to think--it's a hand grenade that's about to explode...)

I've checked all of my fluids and my running temp is fine, all the lights are in good working order, the car seems to be running well (for a '99).

I found an owner's manual in PDF for a '98 but it does not have this symbol.

I'd really appreciate any suggestions as the dealership can't seem to tell me what that particular light/symbol means.

Thanks!
Robyn

My wife just had the same light come on and it was the alert for a burned out head light . Once I change the bulb , the dash warning light went out . You should have noticed the burned ourt light while driving at night .
My wife said YES it does look like a Hand Gernade !!!! Goood Luck ...

Thanks! But the lights all work...that's why I figured it had to mean something else. Maybe I just have a bad connection or something...at least I can go look.

BTW--Leave it to a fellow biker to answer the question...guess we're just helpful folks!

Default Same Problem Too

I have the same indicator light lit, my problem is that one of my brake lights don't work when applied, but the running lights and turn signals still work. I swapped out the left lamp with the right lamp and the problem stayed on the right side. I am hoping its a switch or relay and not a broken wire.

Check all lights - brake lights, turn signals, side running lights, etc.

I had the same issue, in the back passenger side of the vehical in the storage compartment for the jack, the bulb will sometime get bounced a little...which will cause the light to come on.. Check and be sure the bulb is fully installed and that the jack is installed properly also. If the jack is not properly in the storage compartment it will move the wires to the bulb causing it to get loose.
The only way I discovered it was I put the jack in right while the van was on. (It was rattling and driving me nuts). My husband noticed the light go out as I moved a wire.
Hope this helps you
