Ford Windstar Introduced in the mid-1990s, the front-wheel-drive Ford Windstar minivan campaigned with an emphasis on, and reputation for, safety. And in the hotly contested family minivan market of the time, that was an especially solid piece of ground to be on. As long as buyers didn't need to haul adults in back on a regular basis, the Windstar served a family's needs just fine.

Default 96 Windstar LX speaker system

I have 5 speakers in the audio system

2 in the front doors, 2 in the mid-panel rear and 1 larger one in the left rear quarter panel.

All are working great except the rear woofer/?. it rattles badly
Once I get the panel off, what will I find in there?

How do I get the quarter panel off?

Before I experiment,I thought I would ask the experts.
Tnx.

In the absence of any replies, I'll answer my own question:
To remove panelling, remove small top corner molding first. Remove seatbelt anchor at top using #T-50 torqz dricer. Then pull 2 small snap plugs below it and near window. Remove molding.
Next remove 2- cargo-net round hooks (Phillips driver). Lift up a portion of floor strip.
Insert screwdriver at rear to pop panel fasteners.
Pull large bottom panel rearward, (some jiggling and struggling involved.)

Speaker and amplifier are now accessible. Speaker is a 6" hard-cone unit , weighs 3 lbs.
In my case the cone was destroyed/broken, even though hi-power was never applied in last 10 years. (I'm not a BOOMER). Remove 4 screws (T-15 torqz driver)
The system amplifier (170W) is located here too. #18C804.
Apparently the amp supplies 90W to sub-woofer and 4x20W to door/panel speakers.

The sub-woofer is not affected by the FADE control, it's always on.
FWIW, I solved my problem.

The speaker just deteriorated, it happens over time.

Glad you found out the problem.
