Ford Factory installed AM/FM/CD radio - 96 Windstar LX.
Here's a long shot. Even the Auto Radio repair shop has no clue on this problem.
My radio is working fine, except for he following.
When in the AM/FM modes, the unit will switch to the CD mode by itself. One can hear the CD motor running and seemingly searching. It will do that even when the radio is not turned on. (Mind you the radio is always powered when the ignition switch is turned on so that the clock will show).
The "flipping" to CD is very very random. I can hit the CD switch and it will return to radio, but then it repeats the problem over and over again. Othertimes it'll run for hours without flipping. Some days it'll only do it once.
I cannot identify any systematic reason, as it is so erratic and random.
I have removed the unit, reseated all connectors, opened it up but found nothing, no dirt on the gears etc.
Has anyone experienced the same?
