Ford Windstar Introduced in the mid-1990s, the front-wheel-drive Ford Windstar minivan campaigned with an emphasis on, and reputation for, safety. And in the hotly contested family minivan market of the time, that was an especially solid piece of ground to be on. As long as buyers didn't need to haul adults in back on a regular basis, the Windstar served a family's needs just fine.

Where are you located Adrenochrome? If a very late model with lots of options, in SoCalif, I could be interested in buying it.

Unhappy brakes

TOday while in the mall parking lot the brakes chattered really loud and sponged almost to the floor. I was going 10 km and going over speed bumps. It never chatters when driving fast and having to stop only when going slow. weird. let me know if changing the master cylinder works.
thanks

Well gang I solved the problem. Pull the plug on the abs under the drivers side. For some reason pulling the fuses doesn't work. But no more spongyness and no more chattering!
Yeah! NOw it's on to changing the bearings on the tent trailer.

I know this is kinda an old thread but my problem came back. I was coming back from Halloween Horror Night in Orlando when my brake pedal went to the floor again. It feels really wierd like its spongy at the top of the pedal then it gets hard about halfway then gets spongy again and goes to the floor. I already replaced the master cylinder (and bench bled it and the system with DOT 3) which gave me hardly no results. I happend to adjust the rear shoes until it rubbed the drums pretty hard and that seemed to work ok up until now and they're back to what they were. One thing I noticed is that the star adjuster was about maxed out which means the drums are probably worn out cuz they're brand new shoes. So I guess im gonna buy new drums, wheel cylinders and get the shoes swaped out again. I'll post back to let ya know if this fixed it.

Just a gut feel, but I think your problem has to do with your ABS.

Rear brakes don't really provide much stopping power (probably less than 25%), so if they are less than optimal wouldn't have any affect on your stopping power.

Ok I installed new drums and wheel cylinders then vacuum bled each wheel and that fixed it.
