Ford Windstar Introduced in the mid-1990s, the front-wheel-drive Ford Windstar minivan campaigned with an emphasis on, and reputation for, safety. And in the hotly contested family minivan market of the time, that was an especially solid piece of ground to be on. As long as buyers didn't need to haul adults in back on a regular basis, the Windstar served a family's needs just fine.

Default 2003 windstar engine code problem

My wife has a 03 windstar with 93k miles. We are the original owners and have had very few if any problems since we own it. 2 months ago the check engine light came on. I brought it to autozone so they could check it for me. They said a too lean code and I needed to replace the O2 sensor in the exh manifold which I did. They cleared the code and all was well for a week or so then the light came back on. Back to autozone, same code. I then brought the van to my mechanic for a long needed tune up. I told him about me changing the sensor. ANyway after the tune up he told me they were still getting the same code plus a P0100 code for mass air flow? Any ideas about why I keep getting the same lean code? Could the new sensor have been bad, it's a Bosch by the way? What about the p0100 code, how do I remedy that one?
Thanks in advance, any help appreciated,
Cory

The Mass Airflow Sensor is located in the air supply tube between the throttle body and the air cleaner. Use a little caution, as these units are somewhat sensitive and can be damaged if care is not used. You can buy a spray cleaner at most parts stores. Take off the 2 large clamps that hold it in place and use the spray cleaner to remove any gunk that may have collected in it.

You may want to try replacing the fuel filter also. I had a nightmare experience with my 01 Windstar. I filled the tank at a Shell station at the same time that their tanks were getting refilled. Instantly the engine started choking and dieing on me. This lasted for four days, my fuel pump died because of the back pressure from a clogged fuel filter. I asked the mechanic to clean the tank before he reinstalled it, but I doubt he did that because right away I started to get the lean code. I am going to change the filter myself as soon as it gets warmer here. Moral of the story is: DO NOT BUY GAS AT A STATION THAT IS BEING REFUELED! All the garbage in their storage tanks gets stirred up and goes into YOUR GASTANK!
