Ford WindstarIntroduced in the mid-1990s, the front-wheel-drive Ford Windstar minivan campaigned with an emphasis on, and reputation for, safety. And in the hotly contested family minivan market of the time, that was an especially solid piece of ground to be on. As long as buyers didn't need to haul adults in back on a regular basis, the Windstar served a family's needs just fine.
My 99 windstar starts fine, but then dies when it is cold. When the engine is warm there is no problem. Every morning I need to start the car and gun it every once in a while when it is about to die (every 30seconds while cold and idling). After ten minutes of this I can drive the car without issue.
Btw, it will also die if I immediately put it in drive and start going. So it does not have to do with the idling.
Sounds like a bad temperature sensor telling your computer the engine is warm when it's really cold. Pull the plug from the sensor when it's cold, take an ohm or resistance reading across the pole. Warm the engine up and take a reading. Little or no change means the unit is bad.
