Ford Windstar Introduced in the mid-1990s, the front-wheel-drive Ford Windstar minivan campaigned with an emphasis on, and reputation for, safety. And in the hotly contested family minivan market of the time, that was an especially solid piece of ground to be on. As long as buyers didn't need to haul adults in back on a regular basis, the Windstar served a family's needs just fine.

Default Need to remove passenger door / replace sideview mirror

I've got a 2002 Windstar and need to replace the sideview mirror. What's the trickiest part of this repair? And where are the locations of the screws/bolts that hold the interior door panel in place? Thanks!

Go to your local Library and copy the workshop manual on how to do this procedure and it will tell you exactly how to do it correctly the first time.

Even better to buy a Workshop Manual if you plan on doing all the repairs yourself!

I have not taken off my Windstar door panels, but if they are like 99.9% of other vehicles, the inside panels are held on by plastic plugs that aren't visible (don't know the proper name). You just pry off the panels using a screwdriver or something, and the plugs pop out of the holes in the metal portion of the door frame. To re-install, you just push them back on (they sort of expand). make sure you check first to remove all screws, such as any holding on door fittlings or handles. Someone on this board might be able to confirm if this is the same with Windstar doors.

I just replaced the RH passenger mirror on my 2002 (wife hit a mailbox).
There were 2 screws on the bottom of the door panel and two screws around the handle area. You will need to remove all 4 of those. The black triangular piece of plastic above door panel near the A piller pops off, you will also need to pop the door handle shroud off. Once you do all of that the door panel lifts off. Unhook the power window and lock switches and you are halfway done. the mirror three screws/bolts holding it on. You will have to take out the speaker which is held in with four screws, that way you can get to the power mirror wiring connection. It takes less than an hour. The only pain in the a$$ was reinstalling the two screws that are in the door panel around the handle pull area. I bought the mirror on ebay and paid $50 bucks (S&H included). J
