Ford Windstar Introduced in the mid-1990s, the front-wheel-drive Ford Windstar minivan campaigned with an emphasis on, and reputation for, safety. And in the hotly contested family minivan market of the time, that was an especially solid piece of ground to be on. As long as buyers didn't need to haul adults in back on a regular basis, the Windstar served a family's needs just fine.

Default Manifold Map Sensor

Hi,

The check engine light on our windstar came on and when we had the code checked we were told that its for the manifold map sensor. Does anyone know how much the part is and whether its a dealer only part? Also, how much the labor would be?

Thanks.

First, I'd check to see if the code actually is for the MAP. Get the problem code number, and check this out online. (Sorry, but a lot of dealers are unscrupulous.) I haven't changed the MAP on my Windstar, but they are usually: 1) available at any auto parts store (~$50-$80 try Pepboys, Autozone or Advance Auto online), 2) unplug the old, plug in the new (might be a screw or two holding it in place). This is really a do-it-yourself job. Usually, electronic parts like the MAP sensor are non-returnable if it doesn't turn out to be the problem. And before you do anything, I would carefully check all your vacuum lines for leaks, especially the PCV lines, and the hose going to the MAP.
