Ford WindstarIntroduced in the mid-1990s, the front-wheel-drive Ford Windstar minivan campaigned with an emphasis on, and reputation for, safety. And in the hotly contested family minivan market of the time, that was an especially solid piece of ground to be on. As long as buyers didn't need to haul adults in back on a regular basis, the Windstar served a family's needs just fine.
I have had this problem since I drove it out of the show room. The van pulls to the left. I let go of the wheel and it veers left. It's worse when I'm in the left lane on a highway - it really pulls left then. I must have taken it back 4-5 times. The dealer (Bob Allen Ford Overland Park) even re-welded the front tie rods. It fixed it somewhat but it still is a very noticable problem. They made be feel like I was nuts when I kept complaining. (I should have dropped it as a lemon at that) and I can not believe it after almost 96K miles I finally figured it out. I was driving behind an 02 windstar on the highway and I noticed it was DOG TRACKING - and I immediately thought "what if mine is dog tracking?" Well, I had my daughter drive the car on the highway and I followed her and sure enough - IT'S DOG TRACKING. I don't know how wide spred this problem is but I think I was dealt a real lemon from the start - a dog that seriously dog tracks. The entire frame is WAY OFF. I think this is a major flaw with many Windstars and found similar complaints by googling it. I'll bet there are many many more dog tracking windstars out there. I'm thinking of legal action against Ford on this - I'm pissed that it took so long for me to figure out I got screwed. Anyboby else notice this problem? If you have an 02/03 - you need to have this seriously looked at.
I wish you well on any legal procedings, but I must say I would not hold my breath on getting any help from Ford. Time is of the escense in these matters and you definately don't have that in your favor.
I have a 1997 Dodge 1500 SLT 4X4. In the first 24,000 miles it was in the shop 12 times for engine problems , which eventually resulted in engine replacement. The Tranny was replaced twice and they painted the entire truck once due to the infamous Chrysler paint peel.
I enacted the lemon Law while it was still under warrenty with Chrysler and after nearly a year of abitration, the Arbitration Board returned a great big "NO" They said that since Chrysler made attempts to repair the truck they saw no reason to have them replace it. "Beaurocracy" plain and simple.
