Ford Windstar Introduced in the mid-1990s, the front-wheel-drive Ford Windstar minivan campaigned with an emphasis on, and reputation for, safety. And in the hotly contested family minivan market of the time, that was an especially solid piece of ground to be on. As long as buyers didn't need to haul adults in back on a regular basis, the Windstar served a family's needs just fine.

Default 03 Windstar makes noise when turning

Hi,

We own an 03 Windstar that makes a high pitched whining type of noise when we turn it left or right. This seems to only happens after we have driven it for at least 20-30 minutes or so. It then will make this very noticable noise when we turn and we kind of hear it when going straight.

The power steering fluid is at the normal level.

Any idea what this might be?

Thanks!

On our 2002 it started with a whinning noise 5 racks, 2 pumps and i cooler later no more noise. They are notorious for noisy steering. Just stand in a parking lot and listen as a Ford drives by.

What type of noise is it? What does it sound like?

fluids is good well that's fine but the power steering pump starts doing something like that...ignore it until the noise increases and it gets a bit harder to steer at low speeds.

I've heard all different brand cars (at 60,000-ish miles) making 2-4 times the noise my 240,000-mile WS makes (all original exhaust too)

I thing all cars will become crappy if you (or previous owners) have done maintenance wrong or late. And no two cars will ever have the same set of problems

Question Noisy power steering pump

I'm having the same issue. Did you solve it? What was the solution? Is it a real problem or just an annoyance?
