Ford WindstarIntroduced in the mid-1990s, the front-wheel-drive Ford Windstar minivan campaigned with an emphasis on, and reputation for, safety. And in the hotly contested family minivan market of the time, that was an especially solid piece of ground to be on. As long as buyers didn't need to haul adults in back on a regular basis, the Windstar served a family's needs just fine.
I have a '98 with around 91K miles on it. Yesterday after a brief rain, I noticed the dome lights in the car would not turn off. The dimmer switch was not in the lock position that allows all of the internal lights to stay on. I had to disconnect the battery last night to prevent it from getting drained. This morning when I re-connected the battery, driving to work after about a minute, the dome lights shut off. Then when I turn the engine off, the lights go back on. Any insight as to why this is happening? Thanks.
This is well known problem with Windstars from what I have read on various forums. It was very intermittent on my 98. I had two of the door switches changed about 6 months apart. It was good for a while and then the light would say on. Now I believe it's the rear door switch that's causing it. I finally just installed a bypass switch so I wouldn't have to keep yanking the fuse and loosing the power windows every time it happened.
