Ford Windstar Introduced in the mid-1990s, the front-wheel-drive Ford Windstar minivan campaigned with an emphasis on, and reputation for, safety. And in the hotly contested family minivan market of the time, that was an especially solid piece of ground to be on. As long as buyers didn't need to haul adults in back on a regular basis, the Windstar served a family's needs just fine.

Default airconditioning problems endless - 2000 Windstar

Our a/c is flat every Spring for the past 4-5 years. Anyone else have similar issues? Every year we take it in and they think find a tiny leak, top it up, and it all leaks out again by the next year. Been covered under extended warranty up 'til now - now run out. Help!

Hi mcw

Ford uses an exceedingly crappy design joint on A/C system lines that are very prone to leakage. The good news is that if there is anyone in your family that has any mechanical abilities, you should be able to perform A/C system refilling each spring by yourself, at a very low cost. Most auto parts stores (Auto Zone, Advance Auto, Pep Boys etc.) have the kits (usually $25-$30) to attach refill-type fittings over your existing fittings, and cans of refrigerant are a few bucks each (okay maybe $5-$10 each). The 'conversion' kits usually include detailed instructions. And I'm sure if you go in when it's not busy, someone at the auto parts store will be able to explain what is needed and how to do it. I've been regularly refilling my Fords' A/C systems each spring for years.
Best of Luck.
